Mobile Phone Consumer Interaction - NFC or iBeacon?

It has been interesting reading about NFC and iBeacon, the two wireless communication technologies that exist on both Android and iPhone based handsets respectively.

Much of the talk in the press writings is that iBeacon, based on the Bluetooth Low Energy standard (BLE), is going to sweep aside Near Field Communications (NFC).  I am not too sure about that.

iBeacon is available on iPhones.
NFC is available on Android phones, such as Samsung Galaxy S5.
